Position
SupportMods is seeking a full time Rails Web Developer to work on existing and new products/projects.
Education
We are more interested in what you have done and what you can do rather then your GPA. You shall have demonstrated a self-interest in keeping up to date with relevant web/development technologies and related social trends.
Experience
You should have at least three years of web development experience. Preferably, experience in several phases of a project life-cycle, from gathering of requirements, to system design, to development, integration, testing and operations. Experience working in a process-based environment using issue tracking tools and source version control is especially attractive.
Technical Knowledge
You should have capabilities in most of the following technical areas:
1. Ruby on Rails web application framework.
2. PHP Scripting Language
3. MYSQL
4. Subversion control
5. API Development: REST
6. Content Management Systems
7. The LAMP Platform
8. XHTML and CSS
Attractive Requirements
The following requirements are especially attractive:
1. Ability to demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills (in the English language).
2. capable of both working within a team context, and working alone. S/he should be capable of organizing their time effectively.
3. Maintain a personal web blog or contribute to a current open source project/site.
4. You love software. You love programming. You love designing algorithms.
5. You spend a lot of time online and stay up-to-date on new, fun things out there for developers as well as regular people.
6. You are fluent in web application design patterns.
7. You have experience programming scalable web applications and like to show them off.
8. You love solving tough problems
9. You devour everything you can find on PHP as well as other new and interesting technologies.
10. You can point to an itch that you’ve scratched with software you’ve built for yourself or other programmers to use.
11. You’ve worked on web products on rapid development cycles. Your definition of rapid is 2-4 week development cycles.
12. You’re happiest using Agile development, SCRUM, extreme programming, or some interesting hybrid while working on semi-autonomous projects in a flat organization.
13. You enjoy talking about design patterns and algorithms, and can code on a whiteboard. More importantly, you can do all of these things in an initial interview.
14. Willing to work on a contract basis for at least a year before considering an employment relationship.
